Coplan + Crane partner Ervin Nevitt was recently featured on CBS Chicago discussing a newly filed lawsuit against Massage Envy in Park Ridge, Illinois. The lawsuit alleges that a client was sexually assaulted by a massage therapist during an appointment and that the company failed to take adequate steps to protect its customers.
During his interview, Ervin explained that the case raises serious questions about Massage Envy’s internal policies and oversight. “Were there policies in place that needed to be followed and, two, if those policies were in place, were they properly enforced?” he told CBS Chicago.
The lawsuit, filed on behalf of the survivor, claims that Massage Envy’s negligence created unsafe conditions and failed to prevent foreseeable harm. As Ervin outlined in his remarks, the case is about ensuring accountability and strengthening safety standards within the wellness industry.
The issue goes beyond one location or company. Cases like this highlight the broader responsibility that businesses in the personal-care field have to thoroughly screen, train, and supervise their employees to protect the safety of every client who walks through their doors.
